I’m getting excited just typing this. John Calvagno is joining Prospects 365.

John needs no introduction, but allow me to hit a few of the highlights here. NotesFromTheSally.com has accrued well north of 200,000 page views since John launched the site in 2015. 2020 will be John’s sixth season covering the South Atlantic League and fourth season covering the Appalachian League. To my count, John published a whopping 85 articles on his site last season, most of which focused on live scouting looks and notes on prospects including Julio Rodriguez, Jarred Kelenic, Andrew Vaughn, Alec Bohm, Adley Rutschman, Ronny Mauricio, Logan Gilbert, Grayson Rodriguez, Triston Casas, Sherten Apostel, Luis Medina, Francisco Morales, Josh Jung, Brett Baty, Cole Winn, Rodolfo Castro, Roansy Contreras, Miguel Hiraldo, Matt Wallner and Sam Huff amongst others. That’s a pretty solid season of scouting, right?

John estimates that he attended 70 minor league games last season.

Now, he’s stepping away from his site and becoming our lead prospect analyst for the South Atlantic and Appalachian leagues.

The importance of the addition of John to Prospects 365 cannot be overstated. As I recently stated in the introduction for Ian Smith (our new FSL analyst), increasing the site’s presence and reach at minor league parks was a top priority as we looked to add new talent this preseason. In the not-too-distant future, I’d love for you to randomly log on to Twitter and immediately see 3-4 P365 analysts at different minor league parks on any given night. John will undoubtedly be at the forefront of that vision moving forward; throughout the prospect industry, he’s widely viewed as an evaluator with a keen eye for talent, especially in the lower levels of the minor leagues. His evaluation talent will be evident as you read the content he publishes on our site—both from a quality and quantity standpoint.

Here’s what he had to say about his transition to Prospects 365 in a farewell post on his site.

“Prospects 365 is a wonderful website loaded with smart, innovative people, including creator and friend Ray Butler. They do prospect evaluation through live looks, video and algorithms created around batted ball and statcast data. All designed to highlight today’s and uncover tomorrow’s MLB stars. I’m excited and honored to become part of the team.”

Without ever really knowing it, this is a match that has been in the works for a while. This is our version of the Gerrit Cole free agent signing or Mookie Betts trade. John will hit the ground running for P365 in the very near future.
