Today is the day we begin rolling-out the new additions to our writing team at Prospects365.com, and it only makes sense to begin the festivities with a familiar face.

If seeing the name Ian Smith or the handle @FlaSmitty associated with Prospects 365 gives you a bit of déjà vu, it should! We originally added Ian to our team prior to Opening Day last season. Then, as it sometimes does, life got in the way. For a multitude of reasons—most of which were out of his control—Ian never contributed for the site in 2019.

Now, with more time on his hands and the fire and ambition to make waves throughout the prospect world, Ian is re-joining the P365 staff as a prospect analyst with a focus on both the Florida State League and Gulf Coast League. A common theme you will find as we announce our new team members is the addition of a few industry folks who will overwhelmingly fulfill our desire to add ‘boots on the ground’ at minor league fields throughout the country. With his access to both the FSL and GCL, Ian is certainly an important piece of that puzzle for Prospects 365 moving forward.

Along with upcoming work on Prospects365.com, Ian is also a staff writer for swingsandmishes.com and a host for the Earning Their Stripes podcast. Hopefully I’ll be able to talk him into being a guest on the Prospects 365 Fantasy Baseball Podcast soon.

Ian understands the importance and reach he can gain from posting videos of his live looks from his Twitter account, so make sure you’re following him at @FlaSmitty if you’re not already doing so. That Twitter content should begin rolling out early next week as he travels to Jupiter for Spring Training festivities; he’s hoping to get as many backfield looks as possible throughout the next month.

If for some reason you need a cherry on top in order to be excited about the addition of Ian to our prospect team, the Florida State League should be the home of Ronny Mauricio, Jordan Groshans, Shane Baz, Nolan Gorman, Riley Greene, Xavier Edwards, Matthew Liberatore, Nick Lodolo, Alek Manoah, Hunter Greene, Simeon Woods-Richardson, Luis Medina, Francisco Morales, Greg Jones, Luis Gil, Mark Vientos, Kameron Misner, Rodolfo Castro, Canaan Smith, Roansy Contreras, Gilberto Celestino, Bryson Stott, Matt Wallner, Oswald Peraza, Peyton Burdick and many others this season. Oh, and he’ll probably see Jasson Dominguez live during the GCL. No big deal.

If you’re a big fan of batting practice videos and other content from live minor league games, Ian might become one of your favorite Twitter follows ahead of the 2020 season. His scouting reports and player/prospect profiles will also be instrumental as we continue to expand our site brand this season and beyond.
